Four Basic SEO Steps

Hello. Hope your weekend was filling.

Mine was. Most of this weekend I was putting the final touches on my Power Internet Search Engine Marketing seminar (whew that’s a mouthful).

There are many steps associated with getting your website higher in the search engines. Our process is about 10 steps – which is not too many – but to outline this many steps in a speech might put my audience to sleep. So I broke it down into 4 basic steps.

  1. Planning – Every task, even the smallest, needs to have a goal or objective. Basically, ask yourself, what is the purpose or objective of the website? Do you want people to make a purchase? Sign up for a newsletter, or just provide information?
  2. Research – It’s time to identify all the keywords that are relevant to your objective. With that list you’ll analyze your competitor’s keywords and keyword popularity to determine the best 2 or 3 keywords or phrases.
  3. Placement – You’ll have to add your keywords to the website copy, HTML, submit to the search engines and directories, and begin your link building/placement campaign.
  4. Measure – You’re not done. The only way to know if all of your efforts are worth it, you must measure your results. Inspect your website statistics, backlinks, website ranking and analyze website feedback. Know what is working and fix what is not.

Notice all of the steps are verbs – all action items. So take action and get your website found. Good luck in all your marketing efforts.

P.S. Today is the last day to register for our seminar. Don’t miss it.

Mike Swartz says, “Check it out.”
