Tips When Adding Links to Web Pages

I just emailed this to a client of ours and thought everyone should be aware of this. It’s good website usability.

Some tips when adding links to web pages:

  • If you’re linking to a PDF, always open the link into a new tab/window AND add ‘(PDF)’ to the end of the link text to indicate to viewers that they’ll be opening a PDF rather than a web page
  • Open all external links in a new tab/window
  • Open all internal links in same window

If you’re not using WordPress, here is the HTML. Note: target=”_blank”
